Rubbermaid Food Storage Review

Rubbermaid Food Storage Containers Can Go Right from Freezer to Microwave Without Warping or Cracking
My wife and I purchased 3 sets of Rubbermaid food storage containers about a year and a half ago, after getting fed up with our cabinet (and fridge) full of mismatched bowls and lids. One night, after trying to find a lid to a bowl full of leftovers, only to find lids there barely too large or slightly too small, I was frustrated to the point of madness.
“I’ve had enough,” I screamed. Deciding if I was going to do it, I had better do it right, I fired up my laptop, and ordered 3 sets of Rubbermaid food storage containers in various sizes and shapes.
When our Rubbermaid food storage containers arrived 3 days later, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. After unpacking our new “presents” and loading them into the dishwasher, I emptied our cabinets of all the old mismatched stuff into a large box (we later donated it to our local church).
We have been in love with our Rubbermaid food storage containers ever since… and since I ordered several sets, we have never run out of places to store our leftovers.
After having our Rubbermaid food storage sets for over a year, I can honestly say that if I could do it all over again, I buy these again. Here’s why:
First of all, they all fit together extremely well. Since the walls of the bowls are tapered, they “nest” together wonderfully in the cabinets. Even the lids snap together so that they will stay organized too! When you put food in them and close the lids, the bottom of the bowls snap into the top of the lid for easy fridge organization. Some real thought was put into this Rubbermaid food storage stuff.
Secondly, the same lid can fit multiple bowls. Why didn’t someone think of this before? By simply changing the depth of the bowl and keeping the diameter of the Rubbermaid food storage bowl the same, you can essentially elimanate the frustration of finding the right lid. It’s just so easy now!
Third, these Rubbermaid food storage containers see lots of microwave use, and I haven’t had one warp yet. This was a huge problem with our old bowls… we never knew what the breaking point was going to be for a bowl. These things go from the fridge, to the microwave, and then to the dishwasher, and look practically brand new after over a year.
Last, but certainly not least, is the fact that these containers are 100% BPA-free. In case you aren’t aware of the dangers of BPA, BPA is a toxin in some plastics that mimics estrogen in the body and cause a myrad of health problems including reproductive issues, cardiovascular disease, diabeties and even obesity. BPA can be released from the plastic and into food, liquids, or through the skin by physical contact. The rate at which BPA is exponentially increased when heated, making it especially dangerous when used in cookware or food storage containers. Luckily Rubbermaid food storage containers contain no BPA, and are therefore safe to store food and reheat in the microwave.
So, as you can tell, I’m pretty happy with the purchase of our Rubbermaid food storage containers. My only small gripe that I had was at the time of purchase. Luckily, I read some reviews beforehand that tipped me off to the fact that a 36 piece set means 18 bowls and 18 lids. The same is true with the 24 piece sets (12 containers, 12 lids). Unfortunately, this isn’t made very clear on the websites I visited. This could be a disappointment to some who think that they are getting 36 bowls with lids. As a side note, this is exactly why I bought 3 sets at the same time… so that I would have enough storage.
All things considered, our Rubbermaid food storage containers have completely changed the way we store food and virtually eliminated the frustration of storing food after dinner. Go out and buy a set… or if you are like me, and want to toss ALL of your old mismatched stuff, buy two or three sets.
